The Book of Esther contains an astonishingly relevant message for today's world. Historically marginalized due to the difficulties it presents for the Christian reader, among them the absence of any mention of God, Esther poses, through a rich and suggestive narrative style, highly relevant themes: the relationship between man and woman, the struggle for power, the kingdoms of this world amidst the unfolding of history, and the absence of God in a secular society.
However, the undeniable narrative talent of the author of Esther, more characteristic of novelistic fiction, does not detract from its immense testimonial value for the light it sheds on various aspects of the Persian Empire under Ahasuerus.
