Abundant Grace

After "The Pilgrim's Progress"; the book "Grace Abounding" represents the most important work of the Puritan Baptist theologian John Bunyan. This is a theological biography of the events that took place before, during, and after Bunyan's conversion. In the same way, the author theologically interprets several events in his life: assurance of salvation, feeling loved and forgiven by God, as well as his call to pastoral ministry.

The work follows a style similar to Augustine of Hippo's "Confessions." The importance of this work cannot be minimized, both in its current and historical significance. We can point to at least four reasons for its importance: Firstly, those who struggle with difficulties in the Christian life will find great comfort and identification with Bunyan's words. Secondly, for those who wish to share the gospel effectively, this book gives a detailed description of the events of the Ordo Salutis (order of salvation); it is almost like an X-ray of a person's salvation.

Thirdly, it is required reading for anyone who feels called to pastoral ministry and those who are preparing to be pastors, evangelists, and missionaries; and, fourthly, every pastor or counselor will find invaluable advice in Bunyan's words. The edition you hold is based on the original English, an unabridged translation. Additionally, it contains a historical and theological introduction, as well as a biographical essay on Bunyan, written by Puritan studies scholar Geoffrey Thomas.
