The Triumph of Faith

This is the true story of Martin Luther and how his faith changed the course of the world. His faith inspires us today and encourages us to live by the principles of the Word.

The vigorous faith of this convinced Augustinian monk not only led him to defy Pope Leo X himself and his cardinals (even the wealthy Cardinal Cajetan), but also, as a doctor of theology and the Bible, to threaten the very religious foundations of the Church, accusing it of having strayed from the Scriptures. The Pope's defenders prosecuted him by quoting their Councils and a thousand years of traditions. Luther defeated them with certainty by responding with irrefutable texts from the Holy Bible.

Luther's weapons were three: the Word of God, the pulpit of St. Mary's Church in Wittenberg, and his tireless pen. For his struggle, he only had these flimsy weapons, as if he had accepted the paradoxical motto of the apostle Paul: "When I am weak, then I am strong!" Thanks to the invention of the printing press and the reformer's more than one hundred books and pamphlets, Europe was kept abreast of every turn taken by the twisted path of this unexpected champion of religious and political reform.

Luther's end seemed near when Pope Leo X signed his "Decet Romanum Pontificem" (It is fitting that the Roman Pontiff), the bull excommunicating him from the Church and demanding his presence before the court of King Charles V in the city of Worms. Instead of Luther's death, what resulted was the independence of much of Europe and the beginning of the Protestant Church.

Reading this book is not only reliving one of the most moving and transcendental stories in all of human history, but it also forces us to ask ourselves: Is the Church today also straying from its biblical foundations? How can it be understood that the Church can abandon the purity of the Gospel?
