Walking in Piety in the General and Particular Duties of Wives and Husbands (Puritan Writings Series)

For the first time, we have this great Puritan, George Swinnock, so little known in Spanish-speaking countries, in Spanish. In this writing, we bring into our language a portion of his greatest work, The Christian Man's Calling, of which the editor of his complete works said the following: "It is one of the most complete, and we dare to think it is one of the best expositions of the gospel in its application to the ordinary affairs of life. There are few better works of practical religion in our language. We commend the entire work to the frequent and devotional reading of Christian readers, and to them to the grace and blessing of our God." Swinnock has been a forgotten Puritan, as many are, but who are among those Puritans that are difficult to stop reading, having almost the same illustrative ability as many other Puritans in their devotional writings, such as Thomas Watson, Thomas Brooks, John Flavel, etc. In fact, his abilities were recognized by the prince of preachers, Spurgeon, who said the following: "George Swinnock had the gift of illustration largely developed, as his works prove [...]. They served their purpose and made his teaching attractive [...]. A remarkable amount of sanctified wit and wisdom remains [in them]."

This portion deals with the different duties of spouses. In the first part, it deals with the mutual duties that spouses owe each other, such as friendship, fidelity, and mutual help. In the second part, it will deal with the particular duties of husbands, such as loving their wives, instructing them, and providing adequate provision. And, finally, it deals with the particular duties of wives, such as honoring their husband, loving their husband, striving for his spiritual well-being, etc. Giving us a clear, biblical, and illustrative exposition on this institution of marriage, created by God Himself. An extremely necessary writing for our time. And we send this small work into the world praying that it may bless many.
