Why should 21st-century readers be interested in 1st-century preaching? Are there not already many more urgent matters of interest to them than a long discourse given by a Jewish Christian to the leaders of his nation in Jerusalem? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was convinced that the time spent in the early chapters of Acts, "to discover how the Church began and what its message was in the beginning" was well invested.
