The notes have been expanded with the most relevant evangelical authors of all time. By selecting the best of evangelical scholarship from recent centuries and enriching our exegetical understanding of the Bible, without forgetting its spiritual and vital content, and following Matthew Henry's original line and sentiment, devotional study notes are developed alongside exegetical ones, necessary to complement what was missing in the commentary, thereby mutually enhancing each other.
For greater understanding, the notes have been divided by type into:
1. Philological. Notes that offer a definition and explanation of terms in Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek.
2. Historical-contextual. This section groups notes about concepts that develop in spatio-temporal contexts that need to be understood to grasp the meaning accurately.
3. Doctrinal. Notes that explain the doctrinal foundation of faith that rests on biblical revelation.
4. Exegetical-devotional. All notes related to the praxis of faith or that offer additional information to understand the biblical text have been grouped here.
To this end, we have turned to evangelical authors from recent centuries, starting with Luther and Calvin, continuing with the so-called "Puritans" – in whose tradition Matthew Henry is inscribed – and continuing with the great evangelical scholars of yesterday and today, such as Carl Keil and Franz Delitzsch, in the Old Testament, and A. T. Robertson, in the New.
