The churches stemming from those religious conflicts, which today claim the legacy of Luther and the other reformers, would do well to confront Luther's thoughts and actions in order to unravel his motives and projections. Much of what he did (and failed to do) has frequently reappeared in ecclesiastical history to remind us that the reform of the church is a permanent and unfinished process that each generation must carry out. It is not enough to repeat beautiful slogans if there is no open attitude toward change and profound transformations. This collection of texts on Luther and the Protestant Reformation attempts to contribute to such ecclesial, academic, and theological projects.
