For a Christian woman, motherhood is the subtle art of building a home with grace: “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down” (Prov. 14:1). Each person's work is significant because it contributes to the long-term plan. Every nail helps a house stand in the storm. Building a home—childbirth, education, discipline—demands holy joy and a love of beauty. The mother who fears God does not fear the future.
Although this book on motherhood does not address the implications of our children's unregenerate natural state and omits the vital question of how to present the Gospel to them, it is helpful in pointing out many of the less obvious biblical principles involved in such matters as childbirth, illness, education, and the difference between raising daughters and raising sons. Since many of the illustrations given and some of the emphases made would not be equally pertinent to every situation, it would be wise for a woman reading this book to seek the help of her parents, husband, pastors (and/or other legitimate and appropriate counselors) when applying these teachings.
