Adam and Eve: Myth or Historical Fact?

The historical interpretation of evangelical and Reformed Christianity has always taught that Adam and Eve were the first couple created by God with a historical, real, and true existence. However, today they are no longer interpreted this way. Modern liberal theology, which employs the so-called "hermeneutical category" of myth, teaches that the biological parents of the human race, as described in the Bible, are merely a symbol, a mythological representation, or a legend. Instead, they postulate the false theory of evolution as an alternative for human origin.

This work has been conceived as an apologetic response to this way of interpreting Genesis. Modern interpretation, following in the footsteps of the old liberalism of the 18th and 19th centuries, rejects the view of both our savior Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul; for them, Adam and Eve were real beings who existed in time and space. If not, there is no reason for Paul's words: "Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people" (Romans 5:18).
