Is the traditional belief in a first human couple (Adam and Eve), from whom all humanity would descend, supported or hindered by the latest genetic discoveries? The first chapter reviews the history of evolutionary ideas, as well as some of the most problematic issues related to them. The following sections deal with the origin of human beings from the perspective of fossil studies and from a genetic perspective. This work states that the science of heredity does not preclude the possibility that the entire human race descended from an original couple. Finally, the main theological issues related to the origin of humanity are discussed.
