It was in the spring of 1800 when an unknown Welsh girl left her home in Llanfihangel, barefoot, walking towards Bala: a distance of about 40 kilometers. The purpose of her journey was to buy a Bible for which she had been saving for several years. Thomas Charles of Bala was so impressed by Mary Jones's love for the Bible and so concerned by the scarcity of Bibles in Welsh that he found no rest until a society was formed for the printing of Bibles. How grateful we should be today that God's Word is so readily available to us, translated into our own language!
The original story of Mary Jones was published by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1882 and, since then, her name has been known worldwide. It is this original story, until now unpublished in Spanish, that is now being published with great gratitude to the Bible Society.
Having been translated into more than forty languages, Editorial Peregrino now publishes Mary Jones and Her Bible as a testimony to the power of God's Word in the heart of a young girl.
We do not know who the author M.E.R. was, but it is clear that she is a lucid and interesting writer.
