Collection: Martyn Lloyd-Jones

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (December 20, 1899 - March 1, 1981). For most of his life, he was a Protestant minister, though he was a physician by profession. He influenced the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century due to his great emphasis on the Gospel. For almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London.

For more than 50 years, Martyn Lloyd-Jones faithfully followed M'Cheyne's Bible reading calendar. This means that he read the entire Old Testament at least 50 times and the New Testament and Psalms 100 times. He also promoted sound theology and an interest in Puritan literature among younger generations.

Lloyd-Jones is probably the most important figure of the 20th century in the field of expository preaching. On many occasions, it would take him months or even years to expound an entire chapter of the Bible, as he took it verse by verse. His sermons were transcribed and published. From his study of the Epistle to the Romans alone, there are 14 volumes consisting of more than 5,000 pages, and he has other important series such as those on Ephesians and the Sermon on the Mount.

After a life full of work, he died peacefully in his sleep in Ealing, London, on March 1, 1981.
