Collection: Benjamin Warfield
Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield, (1851–1921). Warfield was Professor of Theology at Princeton Seminary from 1887 to 1921. He served as the last principal of Princeton Theological Seminary from 1886 to 1902. He was a Presbyterian who continued the tradition of fundamentalism, previously held by Charles Hodge and A. A. Hodge. He was therefore a defender of orthodox Calvinism, which he called "evangelical religion." Warfield helped formulate the doctrine of biblical infallibility, which was the way the Presbyterian Church defined the authority of the Holy Scriptures.
